Issued in tribute to Elsie MacGill (1905–1980), celebrated as the world’s first female aircraft designer and a pioneering Canadian engineer. This 2023 keepsake set includes all regular circulation denominations plus two versions of the special $1 commemorative coin — one coloured and one non-coloured. The coin, designed by Claire Watson, portrays MacGill with the iconic Hawker Hurricane aircraft she helped produce during WWII, alongside technical drawings symbolizing her groundbreaking role in aviation. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
